Headline: The Finance Leader Who Knows Where the Money Goes Missing

Bio: Rachel Barksdale, MHA, CHFP, CSBI is the Founder and CEO of Healthcare Finance Innovations, LLC — a Jacksonville-based consulting firm specializing in implant cost validation and contribution margin integrity for hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.

With more than 20 years of healthcare finance experience, Rachel has worked across some of the most complex health systems in the country, including Ascension, UF Health, Baptist Health, and Florida Blue. That career gave her an unusually complete view of the revenue cycle — from managed care contracting to cost accounting to payer strategy — and a clear understanding of where money quietly disappears.

Rachel's work sits at the intersection of service line profitability and operational data integrity. When implant costs are incorrectly loaded into a chargemaster or misaligned with vendor contracts, the damage doesn't show up as a billing error — it shows up as a contribution margin problem. A service line that looks profitable on paper may be silently underperforming because variable costs are understated, recovery potential is miscalculated, or device pricing drifted from the agreed contract schedule without anyone catching it.

That's the problem HFI was built to solve. By validating implant cost data against actual vendor contracts and correcting systematic loading errors, HFI restores the accuracy of your service line P&L — so your contribution margin reflects reality, and your leadership team can make decisions based on numbers they can trust.

Why I started HFI: Most revenue cycle consultants focus on billing and collections. What they consistently miss is the gap between what your payer contracts say and what your chargemaster actually bills for high-cost implants. In orthopedics, cardiovascular, and spine service lines, that gap can cost a health system hundreds of thousands of dollars annually — not because of billing errors, but because device prices were never properly loaded after contracts were signed. The contribution margin erosion is real, it's systematic, and it's fixable.

I started HFI because I kept seeing the same problem at every organization I worked with — and I knew exactly how to fix it.
